The Sacrament of Holy Baptism is one of two Sacraments observed by the Presbyterian Church (USA). Both children and adults are welcome to participate in this Sacrament.

The Service of Baptism includes: the Presentation of the Candidate for Baptism, Renunciation of Evil and Affirmation of Faith, Thanksgiving over the Water, the Act of Baptism, a Blessing and Welcome of the individual as they are incorporated into the Body of Christ, the Church.

The Book of Order, the Constitution and governing document of the PC(USA) states: “Baptism is the sign and seal of our incorporation into Jesus Christ. In his own baptism, Jesus identified himself with sinners—yet God claimed him as a beloved Son, and sent the Holy Spirit to anoint him for service. In his ministry, Jesus offered the gift of living water. Through the baptism of his suffering and death, Jesus set us free from the power of sin forever. After he rose from the dead, Jesus commissioned his followers to go and make disciples, baptizing them and teaching them to obey his commands. The disciples were empowered by the outpouring of the Spirit to continue Jesus’ mission and ministry, inviting others to join this new way of life in Christ. As Paul wrote, through the gift of Baptism we are “dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 6:11).”

Any individual wishing to be baptised or any parents wishing for their child to be baptized, need to set up a meeting with the pastor. This meeting will be a complete review of baptismal Theology and Service of Baptism. Following a recommendation from the pastor, the Session must act to approve the Sacrament.

In the case of a child’s baptism, it is customary for at least one parent be a member of the church. At the very least, one parent should be a confessing Christian.

The pastor will happily address any questions, comments or concerns.
